Product Counterfeiting and Piracy is one of the fastest growing economic crimes world wide. It threantens the economic of developed and developing countries alike, damages investments and increasingly endagers public health and safety.
In Nigeria, the effects of counterfiet and pirated product which is on the high rate especially products like drugs, foods and other consumable items could be more harmaful to the consumers.
Employing mobile phone technology, Mobile Verification empowers consumers to verify the authenticity of a product at the point of purchase. The method of operation to check authenticity is simple using the following methods: (i) QR CODE AUTHENTICATION: This method require consumers to scan QR code(quick response code) on product packaging and recieve immediate confirmation of product authenticity (ii) INTERACTIVE VOICE RESPONSE AUTHENTICATION: This solution empowers consumers to verify product authenticity by dialing (iii) SMS AUTHENTICATION: Sms authentication allows consumer to indentify genuine products by texting pin on scratch off label which is on product packaging and recieve alert if genuine.
We are presently partnering with SKYTRIAN DIGITALS an electronic company based in Portharcourt Nigeria who are into fabrication and manufacturing of electronic digital message display board. We implemented our solution for their product to ensure customers purchase genuine product and so far the feedback we have recieved shows that customers are really embrasing our solution.
The “Aha!” moment for me came as a result of the level of counterfeit product that have flooded the Nigerian market, which i was a victim when i purchased a fake washing deteregent which resulted to hand irritation. There, i saw the level of damage counterfeiting is causing to the society, i and my colleague became more passionate about finding a solution to this problem. Consumers needs to be actively involved in the fight against counterfeiting because if consumers could determine genuine and fake product before purchase then counterfeiting will be a thing of the past. That is why Mobile Authenticity Verification empowers consumers to fight counterfeit by simply using thier mobile phone.

Presently a few number of company are addresing the problem of counterfeit with mobile verification like Sproxil, Mpedigree and Trutag. These companies mostly use SMS and QR CODE for authenticity verification but our solution aproach differs from theirs because we are not only limited to sms authentication but three interactive methods wich include: Interactive voice Authentication, QR code Auhentication and Social Authentication which are all interactive and affordable for companies and clients to implement
